UPGRADING
OF THE WEST AFRICA AND SPECIAL RISKS DEPARTMENT TO
A
FULL-FLEDGED REGIONAL OFFICE
The Board of Directors
of the African Reinsurance Corporation, at its 108th
meeting held on 14th April, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency
Hotel, Casablanca, Morocco decided to upgrade the
West Africa production centre, which had hitherto
operated as a department within the head office to
a full fledged regional office to be known as WEST
AFRICA REGIONAL OFFICE (LAGOS). The implication of
that decision is that, although the regional office
will still be based in Lagos, it now has full underwriting
autonomy. Mr. K.E.N. AGHOGHOVBIA has been named as
the Regional Director of the new production centre.
The West Africa Regional Office will cover markets
of the English speaking West African countries, namely,
Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone and the Gambia
and will, for now, be responsible for the portfolios
of the African Aviation Pool, the African oil and
Energy pool and the special risks window of the Corporation’s
business.
Apart from falling in line with the ongoing effort
to restructure and diversify the Corporation’s
source of income by earning new shares and expanding
into new markets, the upgrading of the West Africa
department into a regional office is in recognition
of the remarkable growth recorded by that production
centre whose staff have already received management
commendations.
